GHETTO PONY, PENDENTIF, LE COULEUR, THE EASTON ELLISES

GHETTO PONY

The boys in Ghetto Pony met during their formative years in Guelph Ontario, yet it wasn't until 2004, a year and a half after moving together to Montreal, that these ponies got their horse blinds on and took their place in the race.  "Shouting Squirrels, Leaping Lizards" was self-released in October 2003 and used as a demo for many Montreal shows that followed.  In August 2005 Ghetto Pony toured Canada from Halifax to Vancouver in support of their first full-length "Post Apocalyptic Bubblegum Music."  While always keeping a good presence in Montreal, they have also been making regular trips to Southern Ontario and have earned a steady following.   2007 saw Ghetto Pony touring the U.S. for three straight months, overcoming epic van-troubles, begging banks for credit increases, and playing more shows than they can recall.  Also, their song "Praymantis" was released on a compilation from Montreal's Saboteur Records entitled "Tight."  Now Ghetto Pony are hungry for something more than just Poutine.  They are well groomed, fully trained and ready to gallop like their stable caught fire.

PENDENTIF (FR)

En se choisissant un nom masculin pour un objet souvent porté par les femmes, les six membres de Pendentif énoncent ainsi la part féminine de leur pop francophone. Des évidences frappent ici, outre la volonté de réenchanter le monde, ces songwriters pratiquent une musique rêveuse et sensible aux éléments naturels, Influencée par les saisons, les bijoux et les copains. Ils n'en sont pas à leur premier coup d'essai, ils ont fait leurs armes dans des différentes formations bordelaises et sont largement connectés avec la galaxie rémoise (notamment The Shoes et The Bewitched Hands avec qui ils ont monté différents projets il y a quelques années…). Pendentif revendique autant l'héritage de la pop anglo-saxonne (via les productions Sarah Records) que la variété française (tous les titres sont chantés dans la langue de Benjamin Biolay), sans oublier une appétence prononcée pour les choeurs féminins.

By naming the group after a piece of jewellery (a pendant) designated in French by a noun of masculine gender, but usually worn by women, the five members of  pendentif thus express the feminine influence of their music. It is obvious that beyond a desire to enchant the world anew, these songwriters play a dream-like music which is sensitive to the natural elements, and influenced by the seasons, gems and friends. They started out in various groups in Bordeaux and are closely connected to the Rheims music scene (in particular The Shoes and The Bewitched Hands with whom they collaborated on a number of projects a few years ago.) pendentif claims in equal measure the legacy of Anglo-Saxon pop (via Sarah Records productions) as well as that of French pop (all the songs are interpreted in the language of Benjamin Biolay), and also assumes a clear taste for female backing vocals

LE COULEUR

Le Couleur, une élégante pop vintage et étrange chantée en français, rappelant les vapeurs kaléidoscopiques de Stéréolab et l'énergie des Rita Mitsouko. La chanteuse Laurence Giroux-Do parle d'Amour naïf, d'Amour complexe. Depuis 2007 Le groupe offre l'ensemble de ses productions sur bandcamp. D’abord deux EP aux sonorités personnelles et accrocheuses qui les feront plafonner au sommet des charts des radios indépendantes du Québec. Le premier album Origami sort en 2010, il séduit d’abord la presse locale et connait au courant 2011 un début d'intérêt international. Origami se retrouve dans les coups de cœurs de blogs en Allemagne, Italie, au Mexique en France et au UK. En préparation d'un nouveau EP pour 2012, le groupe nous offrira en cette fin d'année des versions remixées de leur album Origami.

THE EASTON ELLISES

The Easton Ellises EP : ONE  à été écrit à huis clos en l’espace de quelques mois. Le studio, rempli d’encens et de vapeurs de vin, fut le milieu par excellence pour faire naître l’inspiration. Le but : créer une musique autant pour les salles de spectacles que pour les planchers de danse. Le résultat : une combinaison d’électro et de grosses guitares rock, tel un synthétiseur faisant l’amour à une Les Paul. Un TR808 travesti en Ludwing supraphonic. Du sexe, de l’amour, des fantasmes et des dépendances. Des femmes peintes telles des toiles, des amours malsains, des bouteilles vides et des pistolets : c’est ce que renferme le premier EP des Easton Ellises.

The Easton Ellises EP : ONE  was written behind closed doors within just a few months. The studio, filled with burning incense and wine vapors, was the place for inspiration. The goal: create music for auditoriums as much as for dance floors. The result: a combination of side chained electronic music with a mix of rock n' roll. A synthesizer making love to a Les Paul. A TR808 transgendered into a Ludwig supraphonic. It’s all about sex, love, fantasies and addictions. Painted women, impossible love, liquor and machine guns.
